Makes 4 servings
3 eggs, separated
2 tablespoons sugar, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon vanilaa extract
3 cups milk or half-and-half
1/2 cup run (optional), or more if desired
Freshly grated nutmeg
Beat the yolks with the sugar until well blended. Stir in the vanilla
and the milk or half-anf-half and rum if desired.
Beat the egg whites and fold them in thoroughly. (You need not be too
gentle; they should lighten the drink but ot be discernable.) Top with
grated nutmeg and serve.
Note from Susan: I used whole milk, and it was so much lighter than what
you buy in the store. If you want it to taste rich, use half-and-half. I
liked it being lighter though. I didn't think it was sweet enough. Next
time I'd probably use 3 tbsp sugar. This was so quick and easy to make!
