Test Planner Tutorial
Executing Test Cases
Table of contents - Next topic
Before you can start executing test cases, you must have done the following:
- Created one or more folders in the 'Test Planning' part of Test Planner
- Created one or more test cases in the folders
- Created one or more test sets
- Associated test cases with a test set
Once you have reached this point, you can start executing test cases by following the steps below:
- Click on 'Test Execution' in the navigation bar.
- Click on the name of the test set that contains the test cases you want to execute.
- On the test set page, check the checkbox next to the test case(s) that you want to execute, and select 'Execute selected test cases' from the dropbox above the test case listing:

The 'Execute Test Cases' page will be displayed:

To complete the execution, enter the specified information on the 'Execute Test Cases' form, and submit. The specified information will be associated with all selected test cases.
The test set page will then be displayed again. Notice that the selected test cases now display information about their execution, including the information entered when the test case was selected, plus the time and date of execution and who executed the test case:

Since the execution information is associated with all selected test cases, if you want to record executions for test cases that have different results (e.g., some test executions passed, some failed), you will have to either execute each test case individually, or execute as a group only those test cases who share the same execution data.
The test set page always shows the most recent execution for each test case. If a test case has been executed more than once, you can see its entire execution history by clicking on the value in the 'Latest Execution Results' column.
To see the entire execution history for all test cases in this test set, click on the 'Show entire execution history' button above the test case listing.
