Test Planner is designed to allow your team to separate the tasks of test preparation and execution.
Test Planning
In the Test Planning area of Test Planner, the test team can create test cases that are independent of any particular release. The test cases are organized by in hierarchical folders according to your own organization scheme: functional areas, test types, etc.
Test Execution
Test execution is managed by test sets. Your team creates a test set for a given testing task and associates the appropriate test cases with it. The testers then record their execution results in the test set. The test cases in a test set can be executed multiple times, and you can see both the most recent execution results and the entire execution history of a particular test case or all test cases in the test set.
Test cases can be associated with multiple test sets, and the test cases' execution history is recorded separately in each test set. This allows you to execute a particular test set in various scenarios.
